Last year I stumbled across a lovely wild meadow while exploring beyond Church Wood near Humbie. It was late in the year though but noted it for exploration this summer. It's just at the end of the Keith Water before it joins the Humbie Water. Ventured up there today and it didn't disappoint. Full of various wild flowers and kazillions of Ringlets, Meadow Browns and Chimney Sweeper moths. Also 4 blues, 4 Small Skippers, 1 Small Copper and a Red Admiral. It's not the easiest spot to get to but I'll be making another trip for when the Thistles and Knapweed are in full bloom.

A nice surprise find today along Bennet's Burn beyond Pressmennan. I spotted a little butterfly I took to be a small female Common Blue initially only to be thrilled to see it was a Northern Brown Argus when it sat still for a minute. I only saw the one and I came back to the same spot three times but never saw it again. So I don't know if there is a colony there or not but it's a good south facing slope with lots of wild flowers so there could be. Not far from where I saw the Larger Skipper last year! No sign of them this year sadly.

Have NBAs been seen anywhere in East Lothian apart from Linn Dean?

Also saw countless Ringlets and Meadow Browns. 1 Painted Lady and 1 Small Tortoiseshell. Good numbers of Speckled Woods in Pressmennan Wood as well.

Later today I was down at Hedderwick Plantation. 10 Blues and 6 Dark Green Fritillaries, 1 Large White, countless Ringlets, Meadow Browns and Speckled Woods.
