Postby GeoffGuckel » Sat 10 Mar 2012 20:10

Found this near the base of Ben Nevis in January and was quite surprised when It crossed my path. What kind of caterpillar is it?

Alright tried to upload the file but I can't click on choose file.....it was about two inches long, black and furry with a glimpse of orange from the body. Will try to upload photo or can email it for verification

Hi

Most likely to be a Ruby Tiger moth. They vary in colour from completely black to ginger. Maybe not quite two inches though. Here's a link to a photo. http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=431
