East Lothian Sightings - March 2020

Finally saw my first butterfly of the year yesterday (Tues 3rd). A Peacock in Glassel Park Road, Longniddry around midday.

Had seen 4 species by the same date last year...

By this time last year we had already seen seven species in East Lothian!

I saw my first butterfly of the year today - a Peacock in a field near Gifford. There didn't appear to be anything for it to feed on anywhere near, but I am sure it would manage to find something before disappearing again out of the frosts!

3 Peacocks and a Small Tortoiseshell in Longniddry in the middle of the day today

Great to be into a new butterfly season , a small tortoiseshell at West Bank Farm Macmerry today.

Weather from north ,blustery chill , so here's a Peacock on a hyacinth in the garden from the 25th
Think we may all be relying heavily on our gardens for both butterflies and sanity in the weeks to come.
