Went out in the midday sun yesterday to Bawsinch SWT reserve at Duddingston. Only mad dogs and butterfly enthusiasts etc... The butterflies were either zipping about at 100 miles an hour or hiding deep in the grass from punishing heat. However, lots of flyby whites maybe 40+ with at least 6 GV white (landed so could ID/photograph). Meadow browns were the next most numerous after the whites overall with circa 15 seen. Star was a sole small skipper, a 1st for me in Bawsinch though now well established over the water in Holyrood park. A six spot Burnett provided some further colour.
