Bawsinch yesterday, several ringlets, meadow brown, 2 GV whites, a speckled wood and a common blue. Don't remember seeing common blues in there before.

Hi Briart , It may be a city but there are rangers and a management plan if I am not mistaken.
Surely it wouldn't be to hard to rope off and sign sensitive areas ?

Holyrood park today. 2 separate and relatively small areas visited. Started at east side of Arthurs seat just above the ulster crescent entrance, Initially dominated by M & F common blue circa 20+ then ringlets and meadow browns appeared in similar numbers as I walked uphill about 100 yards. Lastly, 2 small heaths as I walked back. Went round to the "Commie" end of Salisbury crags and really did not go far to see 12+ graylings some of which were dog fighting above the indifferent tourists! Also common blue female being buffeted by the wind. Then found a hotspot for small tortoiseshells in a bramble filled hollow below the crags, circa 6 or so there. Also another couple of graylings.

I was sitting in my Bonaly garden this afternoon when an orange butterfly landed on some flowers. I went to inspect, assuming it was a Comma. Wrong...it was a Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary! Unfortunately my camera was not to hand and a gust of wind quickly took the butterfly away. The nearest SPBF colony I know of is at Red Moss near Balerno, about 5 miles away. Could it have come from there, or is there a colony nearer to Bonaly?
