Midlothian Sightings June 2018

Large Heath very active on heather moorland near Gladhouse this afternoon.

Saw 10-15 within ~200m of the road so must surely be lots more further out on the moss.

Inspired by the above post, I went on a hunt yesterday. Area I found was on south side of B6372 between Mount Lothian and Gladhouse. Several large heaths (which do not stop for photographs, need to go back on a cooler day) on heathery bog. Also in more grassy, flowery area between road and heather were lots of ringlets, a few small heaths and a small pearl bordered fritillary.

Around Cockmuir for a few hours today.

Must have been close to 1,000 Ringlets. Never seen so many, literally swarming at times.

Also:

~30 Small Heath
12+ Dark Green Fritillary
6 GV Whites
2 Red Admiral
1 Common Blue
