Hi Ian , similar at Torness ,too windy for anything away from shelter.
Only 3 moths in trap.
2 Speckles in Skateraw Wood , 1 female common blue struggling on seawall , odd fly by white but very poor.
Pleased to hear of your ringlets as I am finding almost all species to be very late this year.
Not finding eggs or larvae on nettles so wondering if the beast got the small torts and peacocks.
It's telling we are still only on page 1 in June.

I had a pretty good day at Linn Dean on Thursday, seeing 22 Northern Brown Argus, two Dark Green Fritillaries, four Common Blues, a Small Copper, a couple of Green-veined Whites and plenty of Small Heaths.
Numbers were a little low on my transect today until I reached the meadow section where I saw 22 Ringlets. Other than that just five Speckled Woods, three Green-veined Whites and two Large Whites.

A cold, grey, breezy afternoon at Saltoun Big Wood but still managed 12 Ringlet, 1 Speckled Wood and 1 flyby white.

Much better at the small quarry on the big bend on the Gullane-Aberlady Road which was sheltered from the wind. Had two first-of-year species :

2 Small Skipper
1 Meadow Brown
2 Ringlet
2 Common Blue

Thanks guys , just what I needed to hear as I am counting at Torness tomorrow .
Was beginning to think it was going to be a pretty sparse affair as I have yet to see a ringlet there this year ,which is 'way behind last year's figures.

I will set forth with renewed optimism ! :D

George,
I am sure you will have a great day. I forgot to say that Abbie saw a great number of butterflies last Thursday, including Ringlets, Small Heaths, Green-veined Whites, Common Blues and Speckled Woods at Aberlady Bay. Then a little further along the coast, Common Blues, Ringlets, Small Heaths, Small Coppers, Meadow Browns and a Small Skipper.
She also reported a Small White, Speckled Wood and Green-veined White in her garden that day.
Yesterday she saw a Dark Green Fritillary, too!
The forecast looks great for this coming week.

3 mile walk along the back roads, field-edges and railway path South of Gullane this afternoon produced only 9 butterflies - though we weren't really looking. Did manage 6 different species though: 3 Ringlets (first of the year), 2 Small Heaths, Common Blue, Speckled Wood, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell.

Also had a Dark-green Fritillary, plus a couple of Small Heaths and loads of Speckled Woods, in an early-morning run through Archerfield/Muirfield Dunes early this morning.

Gifford to Bolton path today and surrounding woods.

Speckled Woods and Ringlets everywhere in big numbers. A couple of Meadow Browns and a Small Skipper as well.

Friday I was up at Bara Loch. A few Ringlets, a couple of Blues and a Meadow Brown.

This afternoon a couple of Red Admirals were feeding on a Ceanothus in my garden. Two of only four I've seen all year.
