Scottish Borders Sightings - August 2017

Postby ricowells » Sat 05 Aug 2017 23:59

An "out of area" trip for me today on SWT walk in the Eildon Hills. At least 8 GV whites, 3 (maybe more but several high speed flybys) small tortoiseshells and 1 scotch argus. Also several yellow underwing and 1 shaded broad bar moth.

Returned today to the Eildons walk we enjoyed last week. Same route produced a much greater haul of butterflies this time with a minimum of 10 peacocks, 4 comma, 2 small skipper, 1 red admiral and several flyby whites. Most of the sightings, including all the commas and skippers, were in the first section amongst the thistles/bracken/brambles before you reach the steep heather clad section leading to the first summit (Eildon hill north).
