George,
I found the same on a plant near Haddington. I've never seen more than one on a plant before. It will be interesting to see what happens to them.

Yesterday I was up at Woodhall Dean. Speckled Woods and Ringlets were omnipresent in numbers plus 3 Red Admirals.

Also spent an interesting ten minutes playing hide and seek with an Adder. ;)

Today I was at Saltoun Wood. Again Speckleds and Ringlets all over in large numbers, 4 Red Admirals and my first Meadow Brown of the year. Also a five spot Burnet Moth. Had hoped to maybe see some Blues or Small Skippers but nothing yet. Speckled Woods have certainly exploded everywhere this year though.

My first 2017 Meadow Brown at Torness this afternoon.

Moat transect
1 red admiral , 15 small heath , 14 common blue , 21 ringlet, 3 cinnabar moths , 14 yellow shell moths ,431 cinnabar caterpillars !

Central transecct
6 small heath , 5 common blue , 20 ringlet , 22 nb5spot burnets , 19 flyby burnets , 3 yellow shell , 2 poplar hawkmoth eggs !

Not bad for a fairly cloudy day.

Orange Tip caterpillar at home has gone into pre pupal torpor.
Just waiting for it to split it's skin
Bet I miss it !
