Pleasant surprise this morning when the buddleia I planted 2 years ago in our garden (a few hundred yards from Holyrood park) actually attracted some butterflies….
1 comma, 1 red admiral and i peacock, all in pristine condition.

Arthurs seat yesterday evening v few butterflies but 3 species. 2 warring small coppers on the lower slopes just above Duddingston village then 2 painted ladies on the subsidiary summit south of the top. A solitary grayling (my first ever) in the grassy area between the 2 peaks. Decided to check the summit to see if the painted ladies were still there from my last visit and sure enough 1 somehow fluttering/surviving amongst the hordes of visitors.
Heading down the less trodden and overgrown path on the south side there was a pleasant surprise when I emerged from the gorse on to the grassy slope to find numerous ragwort plants festooned with several hundred (at least) cinnabar moth caterpillars!

I recall reading somewhere about migrating Painted Ladies ' summit hopping '.
