Oh dear! Don't worry. Records of Speckled Woods have really picked up over the last couple of days. I predict a bumper crop this autumn.
Similarly, Wall Browns seem to be doing very well just now. I saw 27 yesterday on the coastal path at Bilsdean yesterday and today there were three up on the A1 at Bilsdean.

Excellent. I haven't seen any Speckled Wood records from Levenhall this year. Sounds like they are doing well there.

Perfect conditions at Saltoun Wood this morning. Lots of activity on the Scabious flowers and Buddleias.

Large numbers of Peacocks, Red Admirals and Commas with several Painted Ladies.

2 female blues, 2 Meadow Browns and 2 Small Skippers all looking a bit worse for wear.

1 Small Copper.

2 Large Whites

On the subject of Painted Ladies they seem to be having a great year.
Along the seawall at Torness they scored higher than others .
8 painted ladies ....5 small torts.....4 wall ...3 peacock....3 meadow brown .....1 small white....1 large white...1 small copper.
Off transect ,on the buddleias nearer the station Painted Ladies were also more numerous than the peacocks and red admirals.
Certainly I have had a lot of luck finding painted lady caterpillars this summer.

Peacocks now the commonest butterfly during my rounds in Longniddry - with Red Admiral numbers falling sharply. Yesterday's (27th) totals for my postie round were:

19 Peacocks, 4 Painted Ladies, 3 Speckled Woods, 3 Red Admirals and a Small Tortoiseshell, with a smattering of varied whites.

Ali had 7 Speckled Woods on the north-side of Muirfield golf course yesterday and we had one in the garden today, as well as a Painted Lady in a neighbour's garden

My lunchtime transect from Haddington today was rather disappointing. Other than a record number of Speckled Woods, there were only single Red Admiral, Large White, Small White, two GVWs and two Peacocks. Patches of thistles and other flowers which have been covered in Peacocks in previous years were completely empty.
I am pleased to see that others are having more success.
Worrying report on the radio this morning about a decline in Small Tortoiseshells. It certainly seems to be true just now. I haven't seen one in ages and there should be loads about.
