I am pleased that at last we are seeing some butterflies this month!
I received these pictures today from Abbie who saw this "Lemon Tip" near her home.

She said that the orange/yellow markings were so pale that it appeared not to have any colouring when it was flying.

Also had a report of Orange Tips, Green-veined Whites and a Speckled Wood from Andy around East Linton this afternoon.

At last I managed to get out of the office and walk my transect. It started off rather quietly, but by the time I reached Clerkington it really picked up. I ended up with 3 Large Whites, 1 Small White, 39 Green-veined Whites, 37 Orange Tips, 3 Peacocks, 1 Comma and 3 Speckled Woods. I was delighted to see my first East Lothian Small Copper on the walk back, too.
Meanwhile Abbie has been to various sites around the coast and has reported a number of butterflies, including a number of Wall Browns, Speckled Woods, 6 Small Coppers, and numerous Peacocks, Large Whites, Green-veined Whites and Orange Tips. However, the most exciting was a female Common Blue at Longniddry.

Thank you George. Wall certainly seem to be gaining momentum after a good year last year. We just need a spell of decent weather so they can keep it up!!

No shortage of GV Whites along Macmerry railway walk at present, though many a bit spent looking.
